Since I'm kind of itching to start blogging in some form again, but no longer feel that having the blog title of "The Film School Dropout" is very reflective of my life right now (although I may be tempting fate at this point), I've decided to open up a new blog at wordpress.com. All entries from this blog have already been imported over there. This blog will be deleted soon.

I'm extending my blogging hiatus for another month or so, at least until mid-July. After that, I'll either be writing about a slasher series (which one has yet to be decided)...or hell, I may just shut down this blog for good or start something new. I've mostly been watching cartoons on DVD at home lately - The Brak Show, The Powerpuff Girls, old Looney Tunes soon enough. I've been dealing with a lot of burnout across the board (job, event organizing, writing, and health-related) that has obviously been building up for the past few months and I really haven't felt motivated or inspired to do much outside of knitting, gardening, and reading as far as extracurricular activities go. Hopefully after my class is over I can start thinking of blogging or organizing as fun again instead of just extra work on my occasionally endless to-do list.

Things are slightly better now, I've been reassured that my job is fairly secure (although I guess I really won't feel confident about that until August or September), but have yet to receive an appointment for an audiologist for my right ear. I'm making a hardy attempt to get back into school and am currently taking a Film History class that I had to pay for out of my own pocket. I spend most of my weekends studying, and the class doesn't end until surprise, mid-July. This class is why you may see older, somewhat classier films in the "Past 10 Films Watched" bar to the right of this page (I only say "somewhat classier" because the movie we watched last night had some 1933-style racism in it - including white people made up to look Asian - Footlight Parade earned a few groans from the class for sure). I have been accepted back into VCU, but have yet to receive word about whether or not I'll be receiving financial aid, which is the dealbreaker. I'll likely be going back as an English major with a Film History minor, if that's something that can be finagled since Film History is not even a major at VCU (Film and Cinema are however). So maybe the title of this blog isn't so appropriate anymore.

I'm putting this blog on hiatus for the next month. I may make one or two posts, but I'm not going to be around much until I figure out if I'm going to be able to pay rent by the end of the summer. That, and if I can regain normal hearing in my right ear (tinnitus is not fun, and is not fun to have for 3+ weeks).

The F for Film project has also been post-poned until later this summer.

Yes, I'm playing word/band association with the title. When I think "hiatus" I think Sleater-Kinney and Pavement. Although Janet Weiss from Sleater-Kinney is in The Jicks, Stephen Malkmus of Pavement's current band.

This blog consists of about 10% of these sorts of posts by now, I'm sure.

Blahblahblah, y'all know the drill by now: busycakes.

But I give you this, my new project, and two-thirds of what has been keeping me busy lately: F for Film. It's been something like 9 months in the making. We also have a Myspace page.

Another fraction of my time is still on the life-altering level, but not anything I can announce until I know for sure.

Another fraction has been devoted to starting a vegetable container garden. Too bad my balcony is still being fixed and I won't be able to step on it too much until I get the blessing from the city.

So I'm hoping to have one review each up here and at Bloody Italiana before the week is over.

James River Film Festival is this week!

The 15th annual James River Film Festival is this week!

Bad Girls (um, not the western from the early-mid 1990s with Drew Barrymore...wasn't that called Bad Girls?)

Donnie Darko Director's Cut (I've heard it's not so good compared to the theatrical cut)

Richard Kelly (director of Donnie Darko and Southland Tales) is from around Richmond originally, and has been spending time in Virginia filming his new film The Box.

I have to say that I'm pretty excited about this year's lineup.
